THE
CANINE SCIENCE
FORUM
SCIENCE MEETS PRACTICE
The Canine Science Forum is an interdisciplinary conference that brings together scientists with different expertise on Canines. In 2025, the forum will be expanded to include practitioners and interested individuals to further promote exchange and animal welfare. It is held biannually since 2008 and it is the main international meeting devoted to the biology, ecology and behaviour of dogs, wolves and related canids.
AIMS & SCOPE
Through enhancing communication between various fields, the Canine Science Forum aims at substantiating canine biology in order to develop it as a major model for biological investigations. The Canine Science Forum also intends to utilize science as a source of knowledge to promote:
Consolidation of an interdisciplinary field of canine biology.
Better integration of dogs in our rapidly changing modern society.
Dog science that develops non-invasive research technologies (good scientific practice).
The Canine Science Forum is also aimed to spread information on the advantageous roles of dogs in our society and thus increase their well-being.
ABSTRACT SUBMISSION
INFORMATION & DATES
Abstracts can be submitted electronically only. Please note that abstracts sent by mail or fax will not be accepted. The language of the conference is English, thus the abstracts and all presentations must be in English.
Closing of abstract submission: 1st March 2025
GUIDELINES
The language of the conference is English, thus the abstracts and all presentations must be in English.
The maximum length of an abstract is 400 words.
We suggest to include the following sections in each abstract (if appropriate):
Introduction - Question/Hypothesis - Methods - Results - Discussion/Conclusion
Each participant can upload maximum 2 abstracts.
When the Scientific Committee evaluates the individual contributions, the quality, and detailedness of an abstract will be taken in consideration. In case of empirical studies, please provide the N (sample size), if possible. We do not recommend including references to the abstract, unless it is of paramount importance (e.g. your study is a replication of an earlier paper; or an application of a specific experimental paradigm etc). Please, throughout the abstract use SI units if necessary. Each contribution will be evaluated anonymously by two reviewers and based on their recommendation the suitability of the contributions as oral or poster presentation will be decided.
PRESENTATION FORMAT
Talk
Abstracts for talks will be selected by the Organizing Committee based on the evaluation by the Scientific Committee and the Advisory Board. There are limited possibilities for talks, therefore some abstracts submitted as a talk may asked to be converted to a poster.
(If you are unwilling to make a poster please inform the Organizing Committee).
The length of a talk will be 12 minutes, plus 3 minutes for questions and discussion.
Poster
Posters will be displayed for the entire conference. Adhesive, etc. for poster affixation will be provided. Poster displays should be self-explanatory even in the absence of authors.
Posters should not exceed a size of 85 cm (width) x 120 cm (height) (standard standing A0 format).
HOW TO APPLY
Candidates must send via this form not later than March 1st, 2025.
EARLY CAREER SCIENTIST AWARD
For each scientist, perhaps the most rewarding moment is when experiencing our most excellent students to become a successful young researcher, who one day may even outshine our own skills and achievements.
Following the ongoing traditions of the precious CSF conferences, in addition to regular scientific presentations, the Organizing Committee of the 9th Canine Science Forum is also extending a special invitation to early career scientists to submit a presentation proposal on a research topic relevant to the conference aims and scopes.
One outstanding candidate will be selected to hold a plenary lecture at the CSF 2025. The successful candidate will receive full coverage of travel and accommodation expenses and free registration to the conference and social events.
ADMISSION CRITERIA
Candidates for the Early Career Scientist Award can be of any nationality but must be within 7 years of completion of their PhD (or equivalent higher degree) and have a scientific track record showing great promise. The candidate must not hold a permanent academic or equivalent position and must be the (or one of the) principal investigator(s) of the research project related to their proposal.
The selected candidate will be asked to present a review of the project topic including any relevant results of her/his work. The topic of the proposed presentation must be relevant to one of the following major themes about dogs and other Canids: cognition, behavioural biology, evolution of canines, genetics and endo/phenotyping, dogs and humans, applied aspects of canine biology.
HOW TO APPLY
Candidates must fill this form not later than March 1st, 2025.
JUDGING
The international Scientific Committee of the CSF 2025 will judge proposals on:
- relevance of the research to the aims and scopes of the conference
- originality of the research
- clarity of thought and expression of the research question being addressed
- research quality
- previous scientific output of the Candidate
The selected candidate will be notified and publicly announced on the conference website.
